A whale of a birthday!

On September 19th my little girl turned 5!
YIKES!
Five is one of those big years, that just hits you differently...
How do I have a FIVE year old?

Her actually birthday was a little anti climactic.
She was disappointed that she didn't have any friends to invite over,
and the cake pops were something of a failure....
As you can see she was still smiling though.

On the weekend we had planned on going to Canobie Lake Park, but at 11pm
the night before we were going to go, I found out it was closed for a private event.

After some last minute scrambling we decided to go on a whale watch,
something that we've wanted to do since we moved here.

Ready to see whales

I am SO glad it worked out this way!

Island of Schoals

On our way out we passed the Isle of Schoals.
The seas were a little rough for our small boat, the experience left me with a new appreciation for
the crabbers on 'The Deadliest Catch'.

two whales

Normally, they take the boat out about 20 miles before they start seeing whales.
We only went out about 12 miles before we had about 20 fin and humpback whales around us.

Whale tail!

It was such a fun way to celebrate Coralee's five years of life,
and I couldn't be more happy for a last minute change of plans.
