Critique this

Monica over at pixel perfect has a new blog hop 'critique this'

Here is mine, it's from fall 2009 with my old camera. I've come a ways since then, and can think of a few things I would change here......but the question isn't what would I change, it's what would YOU change.

  1. I actually really love this...even the angle is pleasing to me. The only thing I see is the bit of shadow on the left side of the boy's face. Other than that, I think it's great!

  2. i think it looks great!! i maybe would have tried shooting with a more open aperature so that the branches in the background were a bit blurry & not as in focus? just, ya know... if i HAD to do something differently. :)

  3. I think the left side of the little guys face is a little bit blown out. I would probably like to see this a little closer up with less trees in the background [I'm all about the eyes and the faces] but I do love the setting in this. Beautiful!

  6. It's a very cute shot :)

If you could shoot it over again, I'd say get the kids more in focus....looking at it big, it seems their clothes and the one branch right behind the little boy are in sharper focus than their faces. The lighting is also I little harsh, giving you shadows on the little man's face...some fill light or a reflector would help with that though :) I might position the boy a little differently too, so that the branch in front doesn't V off the top of his head.....

As is though, I'd try to correct the shadows as much as possible using curves & levels.... The kids also look a little yellow to me.

It's a really cute set up though, and I know what you mean when you look back and see how much you've learned! I look at shots I took a year ago (and thought were GREAT!) and think... "WOW.....really?" lol :)
